Martijn Brand is the new CEO of POM

POM Group has a new CEO. At the beginning of June, Martijn Brand took over from Kees Neven. According to Neven, Brand is the ideal person to guide POM on its journey to becoming a leading European player in payment and collection solutions

Neven reflects on a great time at POM

“When I started—back when we were still called Mail to Pay—the plan was that I’d join for a limited period. But I quickly saw the immense potential in the team and the product. That convinced me to fully commit.” Now, three and a half years have passed.

Organizational shift

Under Neven’s leadership, POM entered a positive flow. Over three years, POM experienced significant growth—not just in revenue, but also in its team. To achieve that, some changes were needed. Neven:
“POM has always been incredibly customer-oriented, which is one of our strengths. We do everything to help our customers. But sustainable growth also requires healthy business operations. That meant: making sharper choices, adding focus, and daring to be more business-like.”

Jump-start through acquisitions

Two acquisitions contributed significantly to the company’s success. In November 2022, Mail to Pay (as it was known then) acquired Belgian payment specialist POM. Two years later, Mind2Pay—which provides rent-collection software for housing associations—was brought on board. “Those were great moves,” reflects Neven. “The acquisition of POM gave us a jump‑start in Belgium. Our debtor management technology is doing well there. And with Mind2Pay, we greatly strengthened our position as a debtor‑management-software provider in the Dutch housing‑association sector. Both acquisitions integrated smoothly—the teams clicked very well.”

Peace of Mind: new name, broader ambition

Eighteen months after acquiring POM Belgium, Mail to Pay rebranded itself to POM. The name change and rebranding were long overdue, says Neven. “The name Mail to Pay had no relevance to us anymore. Organizations unfamiliar with us thought we only sent payment emails. With the name POM—short for Peace of Mind—we show that we bring peace of mind across the entire order-to-cash process.”

Ambition and potential

In addition to Belgium, POM now has an office in Germany. The company is ready to become active in other European countries. It’s time for a new leader, says Neven:
“We have the ambition and the potential to become a leading European player. To achieve that, the group structure needs to change, and processes must be further professionalized. Those are tasks less suited to me, though I believe they’re necessary. So it’s been a good run. I'm proud of what we've built together. It was a privilege. Now it's time for someone else.”

Time for further professionalism

That someone is Martijn Brand. He previously served as Senior Vice President and General Manager for Central Europe at global HR and payroll provider ADP. He spent many years as General Manager for ADP Netherlands and was Managing Director at Xerox. Neven is delighted with Brand as his successor:
“We were looking for someone who fits well with POM’s family-oriented culture, but also has international expansion experience and can help professionalize the organization further. I’m one hundred percent convinced Martijn fits the picture.”

A facilitating leadership style

Brand is eager to lead POM into its next phase:
“I see an innovative company with great growth potential and a customer-focused culture where employees make the difference. The familial aspect Kees mentioned is one of the company’s strengths. I enjoy being part of the team. My role isn’t to micromanage, but to facilitate: how do we move from what we are now to what we want to become? How can each employee contribute? Can we work smarter, where are the barriers, and how can we be more successful?”

Innovation, passion, and social impact

Brand believes POM already holds key ingredients for future success:
“POM has beautiful, scalable tech solutions that help customers collect more efficiently and socially.
As digitization continues to spread across Europe, our solutions are becoming applicable in more countries—a prime opportunity to accelerate POM’s growth further! The starting point is offering ‘Peace of Mind’ to organizations in other countries, with our innovative payment and collection solutions backed by extensive expertise.”
